About Pearls
Freshwater Pearls are cultivated in freshwater mussels found in lakes, rivers, and ponds. The process begins when an irritant enters the mollusk, prompting it to create layers of nacre (a blend of minerals and proteins) around the particle. Unlike saltwater pearls that form around a bead nucleus, freshwater pearls typically form naturally, resulting in a variety of shapes—from nearly round to abstract baroque forms.
One unique variety is our Baroque Fish-Tail Pearl, celebrated for its distinct fish-tail shape and radiant, layered nacre. Each Fish-Tail Pearl has a unique internal core that allows for nacre to accumulate over time, creating a lustrous depth and iridescence, making them a prized addition to any collection.
Mother of Pearl is the iridescent layer lining the inside of mollusk shells. Formed from nacre, it possesses a natural, opalescent glow and is frequently used in jewelry to create exquisite pendants, earrings, and rings.
With proper care, freshwater pearls and mother of pearl jewelry can last a lifetime, even becoming heirlooms. Their longevity depends on maintaining their natural luster and protecting them from exposure to chemicals, excessive heat, and rough surfaces.
Each freshwater pearl is distinct, with natural surface variations and color differences due to its organic formation process. These features enhance each pearl’s uniqueness, adding personality and sophistication to your jewelry.
To ensure the lasting beauty of your pearls:
Avoid Chemicals: Pearls and mother of pearl are delicate. Avoid exposure to perfumes, hairsprays, and cleaning agents.
Clean After Wearing: Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth to remove residue.
Store with Care: Keep pearls in a soft cloth pouch or lined jewelry box, separate from other pieces.
Freshwater pearls and mother of pearl are timeless symbols of elegance, each piece showcasing its unique journey of natural formation. With proper care, they will remain treasured items in your collection.
